  • Please vote "No" on SB 313, the Tuition Tax Credit Bill

    The House is set to move quickly this week on SS#2/SCS/SB 313 (Koenig). The House General Laws Committee will hear the bill at 1 p.m. on May 1. The Speaker has indicated he wants the bill to move quickly to the House floor without amendment, so the committee is expected to vote the bill out immediately after the hearing is complete.

    The bill would create a new 100% state tax credit capped at $25 million per year for taxpayer contributions to third-party organizations that will use some of the proceeds to fund accounts that parents can use to pay private school tuition and other expenses for their students. The bill also adds numerous provisions pertaining to student transfers from unaccredited districts, charter schools and other topics. ...

    HB 634 (Roeber) would allow charter schools to operate in any district in the state.  The bill is now on the House calendar and could be brought up for debate soon.  House leaders are whipping the majority caucus to gauge support for the measure and place a high priority on passing this bill through the House.
